Pixologic have just released ZBrush 4 and it looks like they have introduced some cool new killer features to make ZBrush even more artist friendly than before.
One feature that a lot of artists will love is the layers for poly painting. While this may not be the sexiest of the new ZBrush features, it is definitely one of those "great at last" features that many artists have been waiting for.
Another neat new tool is the Best Preview Render that lets artists render inside of ZBrush. It has brand new shaders and multi-pass maps that look great. I'll admit that it might not be very relevant in a production pipeline, but anyone using just ZBrush will find it a fantastic tool for their workflows.
There’s a few more new features worth a mention like the brand new Shadow Box tool and Clip Brushes, which will make it easier for artists to generate base meshes quickly and easily. We've put a lot of these ZBrush features to work in our new ZBrush course, which will be out soon, so watch this space.
Artists running previous versions of ZBrush are eligible for the free upgrade to ZBrush 4.0 Win/Mac, regardless of when they purchased it, so you get your hands on it now. If you are thinking of buying a licence of ZBrush, you can get a special 10th anniversary Special Edition packaging if you order before September 9th or until they are sold out.
You can check out some of the art done with ZBrush 4 during the Beta testing stage in the video.
