The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory have introduced a new beast into the world of supercomputing. And as this new release is ten times more powerful than their previous world-leading system, this beast has been aptly named, Titan!
The new system is a combination of CPU and GPU (computer chip and graphic card chips) that allow parallel processing with little more than an electrical power increase. To help put that into perspective for you, this machine can muster 20,000 trillion calculations per/second or 20 petaflops. And if you’re still not following, then lets just say it’s pretty awesome computer processing power, something all us CG artists could benefit from!
This should keep you warm on a cold night with all the wattage!
