Our friends at Science D Visions have released an insightful interview with Weta Digital, the Studio credited with delivering over 300 stereoscopic matchmoves for Avatar.
Their Senior Matchmover, Albecht Steinmetz shares some of the challenges they faced in combining CG and live-action and integrating real actors into a CG environment.
Working with such demanding 3D stereoscopic environments provided new challenges for Weta and its interesting to see what new techniques they employed, such as recreating a stereo-rig to reflect the real cameras' motion and using the new release of 3DEqualizer4. Check it out here.
