Watch the CG Whiz Reveal Event Video

The winners have been revealed! Last Thursday in London at Escape Studios headquarters, we announced the winners of the CG Whiz 2011 competition at our now annual Reveal Event. Amidst free flowing champagne and much celebration, Daniel Danielsson was announced as the winner of the Amateurs Category. With general manager Mark Cass and head judge Lee Danskin on hand, his demo reel was shown. Daniel was left speechless as the team explained why he was elected to be this year’s winner. One small point to share, Daniel created his reel with no professional training—he taught himself how to use the software to create his piece.

We had a fun and festive audience made up of industry pros, bloggers, colleagues from The Mill, many students and the team from Escape Studios. Among the people milling about was Adam Droy, our first ever CG Whiz winner. Adam kindly lent moral support to Daniel as he waited with anticipation to find out who had won this year. Adam is now a full time employee at The Mill and truly understands the doors that will been opened for Daniel as he begins his training at Escape Studios.

When asked what he felt just after the win, Daniel said, “I feel like a Viking!”. We are happy to recognize Daniel’s talents and feel that he truly deserves the recognition given to him through this competition.

And, we’d be remiss if we didn’t recognize the many people that made this year’s CG Whiz successful. We are thankful to have wonderful judges, loads of artists that chose to participate this year and to have such great sponsors including The Mill, CG Society, HP, Autodesk, 3D Artist and Digital Artist. We could not have been as successful without these folks as part of our team. Thanks again to all those who submitted such quality work.
