I am sure most of you will have heard this week that Chaos have announced they will be releasing the long-awaited version 2 of V-Ray for 3ds Max.

I thought I’d put the essentials about this new release here for you. The new version will include the new V-Ray RT GPU technology that Chaos have been working on for a while. They say it will deliver up to 30 times faster rendering times and better workflows in 3ds Max. Neat. The GPU technology will be included with the already available V-Ray RT so you’ll get both in the new package.

If you already have V-Ray RT for 3ds Max, you can try out the new features now. They made the beta of V-Ray RT GPU available for free to existing users. You can also get the beta version if you buy V-Ray RT or V-Ray for 3ds Max with RT.

Once the beta testing stage is over, V-Ray RT GPU will become part of the V-Ray 2.0 package and it will be officially released on the 6th of December 2010. You can pre-order your version from the 1st November 2010.

Here’s the scoop though: anyone that purchases the current Chaos Bundle Promotion, will get a free upgrade to V-Ray for 3ds Max Version 2.0 once it’s released. The promotion ends on November 1st, and you can check it out here.
