The tour continued with a whirlwind week of talks. Firstly I met with a small group of the Games Development students at the University of Westminster. They have a number of interesting courses there as well as some interesting research projects - I hope we can build on this initial meeting and I'll be able to tell you more about what they are up to in the future!
Next was the Creative Computing department at Coventry University. Peter Every and the team there seem to have great group students and the talk was very well attended. Again with a bias to Games Development it was interesting to give the student a slightly different perspective on the industry. Peter has asked asked me to do some grading of students portfolios for their professional development module so again I look forward to building an ongoing relationship with the courses in this department.
Finally I went down to Ravensbourne in their new home on the Greenwich peninsula. It's an amazing location and you can see a few photos of the visit on Flickr - they're literately next door to the O2 and it's a great space inside. They're created a really great environment there for collaborative learning and there's real buzz around that place. I've always rated the output from the Ravensbourne Animation course and I look forward to continuing our work with them.
This week I'm going to sit on a ‘Recruitment Panel’ at Swansea Metropolitan University – where people from the industry can discuss with the 3rd Year Digital Media students what they expect from new recruits, what to include in their show reels and how to make an application.
