The Role Of A Compositor With Davi Stein
On August 7th, Compositing Tutor and Head of 2D, Davi Stein led a discussion to help explain the principles behind Compositing and the essential role it plays during the production process. Discover how Compositing is in fact based on photography principals such as composition, lighting, mood and atmosphere. With that in mind, Davi also demonstrated the importance of 'story' and how it’s the role of the Compositor to “tell it” in one single image. Access the recording here.
What is Compositing? Well to start with, it’s one of the most essential parts of the Visual Effects pipeline. It is the process of composing the final image by combining layers of existing materials to achieve the illusion of reality. Great Compositors possess a range of skills, from creative decision making to problem solving and technical know-how, and so an even better question might be… do you have what it takes to work in this vital area of VFX?
Rounding off the discussion, Davi also highlighted some of the skills companies look for in new Compositors these days; how the entry level role for a Compositor has changed over the years and how you can prepare yourself to be more competitive or in demand for freelance work on commercials and film projects.
