Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is due for release this month, on the 20th, and if you think it is going to be a Twilight kind of vampire movie then you would be very much mistaken. I would probably describe it as Blade meets Sherlock Holmes set in the 18th Century and the vampire fighting saviour is none other than the 16th President of America with the glorious beard.
The premise does sound a bit odd… the film is based on the 2010 novel written by Seth Grahame-Smith which divided opinion when it was released. It's a little controversial, and some would say it is turning American history into a bit of a joke. However, I would disagree. Let’s not take stuff too seriously. On the other hand I’m not sure if too many people would be pleased if plans went into action to make a book or movie about our dearest Queen Elizabeth the II as a monster fighting superhero. Or should I copyright that now?
The film was directed and co-produced by Timur Bekmambetor with the help of Tim Burton (no surprises there… Mr Burton loves something dark and a bit weird). Abraham Lincoln, played by Benjamin Walker, discovers the existence of vampires and at the same time as running the most powerful nation in the world he has to hide his secret identity as a ninja style, axe-wielding, vampire killing extraordinaire.
A number of studios have worked on the project including Method Studios, Rodeo FX, Weta Digital and Soho VFX, and let me tell you, there is some pretty awesome VFX involved. I’m certainly intrigued. Watch the trailer and let us know what you think.
Have a happy bank holiday and I’m sure there will be loads for us to talk about when we return!
