On July 20th, instructors from CG programs at schools such as LMU, Academy of Art, Art Institute and Santa Monica College attended an Educator's Summit at Escape Studios' Santa Monica campus.
This one day event sponsored by The Foundry, who introduced their NUKE education software packages. Whether they already have integrated NUKE into their curriculums or they are interested in doing so in the future, the attendees got a close up look at The Foundry's offerings. Head of Creative Specialists, Claudia Meglin warmed everyone up with an overview presentation of NUKE in the classroom before conducting a hands on training for the instructors. Escape Studios' Tad Leckman kicked the day off with another one of his entertaining and highly informative presentations - this time geared towards instructors and the challenges of teaching visual effects.
The day proved to be well received by both the presenters and attendees. Recruiting Supervisor from Rhythm & Hues, Joe Caggiano expressed "Events like the Educator's Summit set a platform for developing relationships with educators - in return providing outlets to new grads when recruiting junior artists." Joe and several other recruiters from R&H, The Mill and Zoic came to talk about opportunities for junior level artists and how to get started in the industry.
Attendees walked away from the day with new educational product information from The Foundry. Others with NUKE already in their curriculum left with the conclusion that they discovered new ways to help strengthen their program for students.
