Spartacus: War of the Damned has been brought to life by some serious green screen action!

If like me you’ve been eagerly anticipating every weekend for the time when you can stream the latest episode of Spartacus: War of the Damned,  you’ll know that this weekend was the penultimate episode of arguably the most fantastically gory series ever to hit television screens.

If you’re not quite up to date – then fear not, there shan't be any spoilers dropped into this blog post.

One matter I must break words with you on though - is the VFX, which has in this series more than ever, been intrinsic - with battle scenes on a scale yet unseen in the tale of the Thracian.

The use of VFX has been pivotal to the hard hitting graphic, and increasingly inventive violence we’re seeing every week.

I came across this fantastic article, courtesy of FX Guide, which discusses the extensive use of green screen in shooting over 4,000 VFX shots over just ten episodes.

As well as some excellent screen grabs from the series, there is a break down from one of the early episodes of War of the Damned, it’s a great insight for fans to see how the action is made, and how important VFX are in creating the scenes.
