Having started a VFX course here at Escape Studios, I've been keeping a diary to share how I’m getting on so far. And here's an update on week five.
Day twenty one:
Today we were taught about materials with alpha channels. Lots to learn and very interesting. Options on saving a file can save so much time in the long run. Project work in the afternoon went well. Made a reflection layer in the render layers and work is almost done.
Day twenty two:
Worked with multiple layers today and transparency again. Did a graffiti wall and it turned out very well. Missed project work in the afternoon as I had an appointment to keep. I know I'm ahead with my project work so I'm not worrying... yet!
Day twenty three:
Tube problems meant many missed the early morning so we did project work all day. A real bonus for all needing help as we had an even smaller class size and more time to focus on our work. Today I rendered out my work and will do some compositing in Photoshop tomorrow.
Day twenty four:
3D materials were the topic for today’s tutorials. Again lots to learn and very exciting. We also learnt how to stop materials swimming through materials. Useful for animation.
Day twenty five:
Back to the Mustang project but today we were texturing and what fun it was. We used multiple layers and went between Maya and Photoshop all morning. We added rust layers, sand layers, scratches and even layers of polished areas. Tons of good tips were taught today alongside masses of new techniques. I will watch the online tutorial tonight to make notes on all techniques shown as it was fast paced today and I really want today's lesson to sink in. Finalised my project work in Photoshop. I'm finished a week ahead of the deadline! Who would have guessed I've completed a project with just 25 days experience with Maya. It's a proud day for me.
