"Project Twitch": Maya in a web browser

Autodesk Labs recently added Maya to the company's "Project Twitch". If you feel like saying "so what?!", please keep on reading...

What is "Project Twitch"?
The project tests remote delivery of Autodesk applications over the Internet. The goal is to enable users to test and try the latest versions of AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, and Maya without having to install or download the application. The applications run remotely, are delivered over the internet and you can use them in the same way that you would if they were installed on your system. So, to simplify it even more: you'd be running Maya in your web browser...

Software as a Service (SaaS)
Lots of other companies already started to re-think the way they distribute their software - this approach opens up new ways in which you might use Autodesk software in the future.

What if you only needed to use some software for a few days?
What if you needed to let others use your proprietary pipeline tools and didn't want to let the tools leave your control?
What if you were away from work and an emergency came up that required you to login and do some work?

...an exciting project with loads of technical constraints and challenges, keep an eye on it!

That's cool. Shame it's not currently available to the UK but very handy to see what the next updates will be like.
