NYCC 2012

NYCC 2012

We are less than a month away from New York Comic Con, “the East Coast's biggest and most exciting popular culture convention”, an event that attracts fans of film/TV/graphic novel (and the rest!) in their hoards, last year’s convention drawing 105,000 punters!

There are always some great revelations at the event, mainly down to the versatile line up of special guests and the devout fanaticism of like-minded attendees. On that note, I spent a quarter of an hour perusing some of this year’s guests from the entertainment section, selecting my favourite 3 and hopefully, exemplifying the diversity of speakers on show at this year’s New York Comic Con.

In at 3 is one Paris Themmen – that’s the square eyed, western loving ‘Mike TeaVee’ from the 1971 classic – Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory,

The silver medal I’m ever so piously awarding, goes to one of my favourite sidekicks of all time – Burt Ward, who played Robin in the 1960’s series of Batman (which I personally prefer to the 21st century thrillers) and it is his first New York Comic Con experience “I’m looking forward to meeting all the great fans in New York” says the caption alongside his picture, Holy Microwave!

The peak spot on my imaginary podium though, is awarded to one of the coolest men to ever grace the planet – Jason David Frank, otherwise known as Tommy Oliver. Haven’t heard of him? I’ll divulge… as a child of the 1990's 'Power Rangers generation' I can safely say that at least 85% of primary school dwelling young boys wanted to be the Red Ranger. Jason David Frank IS the Red Ranger, not only that, but he became the Green Ranger AND the White Ranger when the series began to evolve – and if that isn’t enough, this guy has even started his own martial art! (Toso Kune Do for those who want to fight the scourge of Ivan Ooze) Very cool.

In fact, I think Jason deserves a whole blog post to himself, but I'll save that for another time…

Anyway - there it is folks, keep an eye on the blog throughout October as we will no doubt be dispatching plenty of comic con news and announcements!
