Martin Cutbill
VFX Graduate
You studied the VFX Course with us, what was that like?
The course at Escape has been literally the best educational experience of my life and I loved every minute of it. Although it really was hard work. If you want to get the most out of the course you need to apply yourself and put in the hours as the syllabus plots a steep yet manageable learning curve throughout. It boggled my mind to look at the work produced by graduates, but in the last few weeks I was producing the same.
What was the best thing about studying at Escape Studios?
The tutors! My two tutors Jeff Pratt and Dan Schutt were both excellent, helpful and knowledgeable, and although I'd been a graphic designer and illustrator for ten years before the course, I'd not done any 3D at all when I started at Escape Studios. However the course taught me everything I needed to transfer my existing professional skills in the graphic arts to the field of visual effects.
Are you working at the moment?
Right now I'm doing visual effects for a Discovery Channel show on human parasites, which is a really cool project and a tremendous opportunity to develop my skills.
What's next?
Who knows? Perhaps I'll find a horror film that needs icky worm-like monsters... I should be an expert by then!
