An MA in Compositing

Please contact our Admissions team for more information on the course and how to apply.

What is compositing? Well its visual effects for a start. Compositors are the masters of make-believe. Responsible for composing the final image in a VFX or motion picture sequence, this is how we create the illusion of reality. Without compositing, we’d be looking at the gaudy wires that support actors during action sequences or shots lacking atmosphere and composition. As a Compositor, you’re the person who makes sure the shot meets the artistic brief set by the Director. You naturally look at the finer detail, checking whether that ‘minute detail’ looks right in the scene - and if not, why not? This department is where the real magic happens through a variety of creative and technical processes; and it takes highly skilled, creative individuals to make it happen.

We've teamed up with the University of Bradford to create a course that goes beyond even our regular compositing courses. Combining the exceptional level of Escape tuition with a fully accredited formal MA qualification, that offers you the highest level of theoretical knowledge and practical, vocational training to help you secure your first job in the VFX industry.

During this 11 Month course you will learn a range of complex compositing techniques and submit five assignments which will be reviewed by both your Escape tutors and the University of Bradford. For each assignment you will be required to produce a final piece of project work and a supporting report which documents your work. Throughout the course you’ll be asked to demonstrate advanced knowledge of 2D VFX production technologies and their use in a production environment. But don't worry, you'll receive all the training and knowledge you need from us here at our start of the art studios!

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a University of Bradford MA in Compositing, so if you’re looking for a course that offers you both the practical skills you need to secure a job in the industry and a formal university qualification, look no further. As with all our courses, you also have access to the legendary Escape Studios industry knowledge, connections and aftercare.
