A great artist died yesterday and whilst his death has nothing whatsoever to do with the world of CG and VFX, I thought many of you would be mourning the death of this great artist.
Here is quite a touching retrospective of his work and his life, which was done a while back.
I personally love his work, but I know he wasn’t to everyone’s taste. What none of us can deny though is the impact he had in the art world. I have no doubt that he will be a source of inspiration for generations of artists to come. Including his daughter Lucy Freud…
I am not sure how many of you know this, but one of his daughters (he had 13 children in total!), is also a painting artist. No thanks to his father though. For most of her life, she hasn’t used his surname and she barely had a relationship with him. Judging by a recent article in the Telegraph, this was the cause of much regret to her. You can read the whole story here and take a peak at some of her work.
Looks like the man will be celebrated for his work, but maybe not so much for his role as a father. Let’s hope that his daughter brightens up the art world in the same way he did.
