Lee vs. Hiddleston - The Crow to fly again?

One of the movies which I really connected with during my ‘teenage angst’ years was the 1994 adaptation of James O’Barr’s comic book, The Crow. It had everything a troubled 14 year old girl could wish for in a film; fantasy, romance and tragedy, oh and not forgetting a dark, brooding, handsome hero in the shape of Brandon Lee.

So, it was with trepidation that I read the latest announcement from The Wrap that Avengers star Tom Hiddleston is in early talks to play Eric Draven in Relativity Media’s reimagining of the gothic classic. Now, it’s not specifically Hiddleston that I have a problem with; it’s the whole reworking of the movie if I’m completely honest. I guess I still hold a candle for the late Mr Lee, his untimely death on set added an air of mystery and intrigue to the film and it’s going to take an outstanding performance from anyone to sway my loyalty away from the original.

Having said that, I’m always open to change and with an enigmatic character like Loki under his belt maybe Hiddleston has what it takes to ignite a new flame within this gothic-loving, adolescent heart…
