After a brief hiatus, Selby's App of the Week has returned - under the new married guise of Lee's App of the Week!
This week I give to you: Pixlr-o-matic. 2 words: Free and Android.
Whatever your social-networking poison, be it Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, the likelihood is your keen to share your photos. There are a slew of photo editing apps out there to help add those special touches to your precious pics before you click the all-important "share" button.
The Android world is currently a-buzzin' about Pixlr-o-matic, and for very good reasons.
Pixlr-o-matic's interface is neat and simple and rather conveniently the homepage always shows the last edited image - for those midnight perfectionists who can't leave their creations alone. Another cool bonus is you can also use third party camera apps (if installed) along with your Android stock camera - this also lets you keep the filters from your third party camera app.
The apps creative editing options are neatly categorised into Overlays (make your images sharper), Effects (lighting - glitter, metal, scratches and so on) and Frames (everything from flowers to a tidy square). What I loved about this app is the row of effects which appear beneath the image giving you a glimpse of each of the possible effects on the photo. There are dozens of effects, overlays and frames to choose from and you can download more for free. The shuffle button efficiently selects random effects for your photo and is pretty good at what it does. Just select the effect you want and BOOM, good to go. If you love clicking and fiddling with images, then this free app is worth a try.
In a nutshell, Pixlr-o-matic is a very refreshingly straightforward and hassle-free app to use. The ability to create a perfectly framed wonderland from your tawdry existence is kind of...magical...
