We are coming up to that time of year, the time of year that fills single people with dread, fills kids with joy and will empty out most people's wallets. Yes we are in the run up to Christmas...in fact you only have 45 days to prepare yourself.
Following the day of turkey we have New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day and all of these dates are notorious in the plots of soppy, loved-up, ever-so slightly sickening rom-com movies.
But looking at the films that are due to be released this holiday season there seems to be a bit of a shift happening. This year and for a few years now there has been a rise in Horror and Thriller movie releases around Christmas, with most of these movies using some visual effects magic. I’m not sure if it is to put a dampener on our elfin-like Christmas spirit or to remind us that no holiday is safe!
Don’t believe me? Well here is some proof. Currently scheduled for release into cinemas and the comfort of your home this Christmas are:
Gremlins - A re-release of the cuddly, critter classic.
Silent Night, Bloody Night: The Homecoming
Spiritual Contact the Movie
Texas Chainsaw 3D
The Shadow of Bigfoot
What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? – A re-release of the 1963 classic thriller
Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines – The 5th in the series of the Wrong Turn movies going straight to DVD for you to watch from the comfort of your couch (behind a cushion).
So this is just a reminder that Santa may be making a list and checking it twice but the holiday festivities can always be ruined by a maniacal axe man or famished cannibal.
Beware of visitors on their way down your chimney this year!
