The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that Jeffrey Katzenberg, the 'K' of DreamWorks Animation SKG, is to be given an honorary Oscar at the Governors awards ceremony this November.

The producer and long-time philanthropist will be presented the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for his efforts helping to raise more than $200 million for the US-based Motion Picture and Television Fund, which provides financial assistance, health care and social services to members of the entertainment community.

Katzenberg, the former Disney chairman who co-founded studio DreamWorks in 1994 with Steven Spielberg and David Geffen, has previously had one Oscar nomination for his producing work on DreamWorks' Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
