Girl Power!

Girl Power!

Happy International Women’s Day!

If you're a girl working in the industry or looking to break into the industry, you should join this LinkedIn group. It’s a great community where female industry professionals share their knowledge, post upcoming networking events and provide much needed support to each other in this male-dominated industry. The conversation thread in Sue Rowe’s post about her Oscar nomination for her work on John Carter is a particularly interesting read; it’s hard to believe that she is the first female ever to be nominated in the VFX category!

I noticed that a number of female students here at Escape Studios are already members of the group and it will certainly give them a head start on their prospective career in VFX. Speaking of which, after reading about Sue’s recent Oscar nomination I took it upon myself to delve into the success stories of our very own female Escapees and, wow, talk about girl power! It’s certainly encouraging to see so many of our female ex-students making waves in the VFX industry, both at home and overseas. Let’s hope that with the combined efforts of academies like Escape Studios and groups like Women in VFX we won’t have to wait long before we see female VFX artists receiving the recognition they so deserve.
