First Look: Costumes of 'Tron'

First Look: Costumes of 'Tron'

Disney’s Tron Legacy is due out on December 17th, and I have no doubt that many of you will be eagerly waiting for that date.

I’ll easily admit that I wasn’t a fan of the original movie, but I cannot deny the fact that it is a cult film and a real milestone in terms of visual effects. What I find most striking about the original Tron movie are its iconic images – the LightCycle being the most obvious one. They have stood the test of time and remain ultra cool symbols.

A couple of days ago, I noticed a story in the Hollywood Reporter that is sure to interest many Tron fans. Disney have been sharing images of the costumes used in their upcoming film. You can take a peak at them here.

I guess they are pretty faithful to the original ones, and instantly recognisable as Tron costumes. What I wasn’t so keen on were the many merchandising items that Disney have produced to coincide with the release of the film. They range from trainers to sunglasses to snowboards - still, I guess they’ll be on many people’s Christmas list. Not sure they are going to have the same enduring cool image though…

I am interested to know how many of you out there actually got involved in VFX and 3D because of Tron. Let me know, I'd love to hear your stories.

"I can't think of any other landmark effects movies that have moved me in the way these have. "
    How about blade runner

  • Chris Wilson:

Can't wait for the new movie
I'm into CG because of this - Star wars & The Matrix

(transformers is just short of that list as I had already started tinkering with Maya when it was released)

I can't think of any other landmark effects movies that have moved me in the way these have.
