Since 2002’s 28 Days Later, the world has seen the return of the zombie film - in a massive way, and in the last 10 years we have been witness to films of this genre in all manner of shapes and forms.
At one end of the spectrum, Simon Pegg’s Shaun of the Dead (2004), brought us laughs in the form of a ‘zom-romcom’, while at the other, writer and co-director Jaume Balagueró scared us all witless with Rec (2007), the third instalment of the trilogy having been released in March earlier on this year.
Like the undead’s thirst for blood and flesh it seems the world has acquired an insatiable lust for a zombie flick.
Being one who is swept away with the tides of infatuation, you can imagine my delight when I spoke to some escapees last month, who informed me they’d been working on the latest addition to the UK zombie motion picture family… Cockneys Vs Zombies.
On Friday, the red band trailer was released, and from the looks of things, as well as some fantastic gore and VFX, I think we’re in for some of the year’s best one liners provided by a stellar British cast.
Being a sucker for a zombie killing spree, coupled with the fact a number of our students have worked on this project, I shall be lining up at the cinema when it hits UK screens on the 31st of August… I’ll see you there!
