Escape Studios announces winner of the CG Graduate Design Awards

Firstly a big thank you to all of you who entered our CG Graduate Design Awards. We were really impressed with the standard of entries and it made last week’s judging day with our friends at The Mill pretty tough.

We spent a day going through the reels of graduates submitted and were impressed by the character design, modeling and camera tracking used in the best ones. Katherine Perez’s work featured some great modeling and texturing and the opening dialogue and animation sequences in Mark Nicholas’ reel were impressive to watch. Some of the reels we saw were more suited to other disciplines like Conor Fitzgerald whose work showed real talent in architectural, visual and product design – some nice detailed modeling too. I’ve said here before it’s important to make sure your reels are specialized and focused on one area to really stand out.

But enough about the runners up, there can only be one winner and we’re pleased to announce the first CG Grad Design Award title goes to Matt Radford. Take a look at his video here – for us, his style and creativity gave it the edge and certainly showed real potential. Matt’s a worthy winner and we’re looking forward to enrolling him on his year long mentored course from us and arranging his session with The Mill.

Matt, you'll be hearing from us very shortly, but feel free to get in touch here.
