Had you always wanted a career in this industry? I started out as a graphic designer. I was half way through a university course when it hit me that it really wasn’t what I wanted. After much soul searching I decided to make movies. How did you find out about Escape and what was it like? Escape kept popping up everywhere I looked. I wanted a 3D course in the I went for a studio tour and liked what I saw. Seeing Escape gave me a great buzz and I really wanted to get stuck in. I signed up to the Maya Comprehensive course. It was intense but I’ve never been in an environment where everyone else is so keen to learn. What happened after the course? I started as a runner at Double Negative which gave me a good insight into the industry. Then I was approached by Escape to work in the Pods with a great team. After that I freelanced for the next few years including a 5 month contract at the BBC working on a CG version of Jackanory. What are you doing now? I’m working at Framestore-CFC Animation as a modeller/Creature TD. I've been here almost a year, now on my 3rd project. On each one I’ve picked up new skills. What advice would you give to any prospective students? Keep up with industry news because the technology is constantly changing and you have the stay on the ball. Be prepared to try new programs and methods of working rather than sticking rigidly to what you know.
