Escape Competition finds its Pixel Hero

Escape Competition finds its Pixel Hero

A few months back Escape Studios ran its Pixel Hero Competition as part of the London Game Career Fair, and now we've found our winner.

Held at the Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane, the Fair was a chance for the industry to check out up-and-coming talent, and for the talent to learn a bit more about the companies that produce the games.

Escape thought the best way to sniff out skills would be to hold a competition to design a hero. The rules were tough. You’d get just 30 minutes to design the ultimate games hero and present it as a 64x64 sprite. However, the reward was great.

After battling his way through the hoards of entrants, Oyvind Hoel found himself as the proud owner of a spanking new Boxx thanks to his hero, McRed, a native red squirrel warrior who stands between the invading American grey and complete dominance. As Oyvind says, "It’s a Braveheart of the Squirrel kind".
