Escape graduate Adam
Dewhirst has had a bright start to 2008 by seeing Framestore-CFC pick up two major
awards for a project he worked on. The world-famous Special
Effects house took both the BAFTA and Oscar for Best Visual Effects for its work
on ‘The Golden Compass’. Adam had been called in as a
modeller for the bears' armour in the film, creating iconic imagery which
has become synonymous with ‘The Golden Compass’. Speaking about his experience Adam said, “I was
initially told I would be working on some props and environments but boy am I
glad I got the armour. It’s such an intricate part of the film!” “We had moments where we were looking at concepts
and had to think if Iorek would be able to move. We had entire meetings
over how his armour would link together. It was an incredible process. Seeing
it up on the screen was just mind blowing, definitely a highlight of my career.” Adam went on to describe how he heard about the BAFTA
and Oscar wins. “I turned over to watch the BAFTAs and suddenly saw my
supervisor on screen thanking Framestore-CFC. It was very surreal and I was straight
on the phone to my colleagues. It was a great feeling but the Oscar eclipsed even that.” “It’s an awesome feeling to know you were a part of something receiving those kinds of accolades. I'm really proud of the work Framestore-CFC did on Golden Compass, and my role in that.”
