In Rick’s compositing course, our students have already made great strides. They are currently working on Keying and Rotoscoping - finishing up the section of the course which deals with the core skills for a junior. Next, the students will start to work in ‘real world’ scenarios, which will help them to become problem solvers. They’ve completed work on the NUKE interface and are now focusing on the art of compositing, and the techniques to approaching problems. After the break they will be working on color correction, 3D in NUKE and CG compositing. They're all very excited to start shooting their own footage and putting together multi-pass composites.
In the VFX course, the students are just finishing the section on texture mapping, and moving into basic animation. They've just started working on their Maya Core project, constructing a CG asset, fully modeled, textured lit and rendered to a photo realistic finish. All of them have become much more comfortable in the Maya interface and problem solving. Rather than asking where something should be located in the interface, they are finding the tools themselves, and making their own decisions on what techniques are appropriate. After Christmas, they will be moving onto the "visual effects" section of the course, learning to combine their CG skills with live action. Camera tracking, lighting and rendering will be the big approach.
Stay tuned to this blog to get the latest on the happenings in our classes… And if, like them, you dream of becoming a CG artist, why not come along to one of our Open House Days?
