I have been reviewing all the entries that we have so far received in our CG Whiz competition and I am delighted to see how many there are from the US. This is particularly dear to me as I have been working hard on making this US website happen for the last 6 months and it shows how active our US followers are.
To all of you who have entered, a big “thank you”!
Many of you have sent questions to our CGWhiz@escapestudios.com inbox, so here’s a whole bunch of answers that I hope will help you all.
Does your location matter for entering the competition?
Absolutely not! Any aspiring CG artist can enter; your current location doesn’t matter. However, since the top prize is a physical course at Escape Studios, you’ll need to relocate to Los Angeles or London – where our campuses are located – to attend.
I live in the US, but if I win, I want to study in London, is that possible?
Yes it is. Although you’ll need to think about the increased relocation costs that you will incur... Also, you’ll need to take care of any necessary student visa required for you to study in London.
Does the top prize include cost of relocation?
Sorry, but the answer to that one is no. If you win the grand prize, you will be expected to pay for your own relocation costs. However, the good news is that this year, we are happy to have the winner study with us either in Los Angeles or London.
Are there any categories in this competition?
No, there are no categories in this competition. We are accepting entries of all types, whether they are focused on VFX, Character Animation, Games or anything else. Each entry will be judged on its own merit – what we are after is creativity and fresh, promising new talent.
I have done some professional work, can I enter the competition?
That simply wouldn’t be fair. We want to give all aspiring artists an equal chance to win and if we let professionals enter then graduates and hobbyists wouldn’t stand a chance – that’s why we are not accepting entries from people who have already done some professional work. If you are a professional, rest assured, we will be running new competitions shortly that you will be able to enter. Keep an eye out on our blog for the next one.
Will you be checking to see if entries are from professionals?
Oh yes!
You can check out all the entries received so far on our many social media channels – Youtube, Facebook, Twitter or Vimeo.
To enter the competition, just follow the instructions outlined here. That’s it from me – keep your eyes out for more competition updates and may we see even more entries from the US and Canada.
