Those of you into weird mathematical equations will probably have heard of Benoît Mandelbrot - who is famous for being the father of fractal geometry. Sadly he died a few days ago, but not without leaving us with the most amazing body of work.
Now, I hear you say, why are you talking to us about this mathematical genius? Well, because his equations are constantly being used by lovers of 3D to create the most stunning images. Back in the days when I was at university, people around me (well, OK, so it might have just been my boyfriend at the time), used to punch these equations into a Spectrum computer and it would take days and days for this beautiful image to appear slowly. The first such image that I ever saw looked something like this, and I remember being totally blown away by it.
Now that we are in a 3D world, we can create even more amazing images using Mandelbrot equations. Here is a sample of some of the images. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
