Who Remembers Scanimate?

Who Remembers Scanimate?

I stumbled upon a really good site the other day which sent me on a trip down memory lane. The site is called "Scanimate Central" and is basically a resource for anyone to read about how animations used to be made.

News Round-Up: Monday 12th Sep 2011

For some time now, I have been doing a weekly round up of news for our own internal use at Escape Studios. I never actually thought of sharing it more widely until someone pointed out to me last week, that actually, maybe it would be useful to the people who read this blog.

It is in light of this that Henry South, lead texture artist at Framestore, is offering to share his top 23 tips when working with MARI.

Dom Davenports Writes for The Guardian About Careers in the Creative Industries

With the launch of our Creative Futures report, we have been giving the topic of 'Jobs in the Creative Industries' a lot of thought lately. We have been talking to many professionals in sectors as diverse as Graphic Design, Architectural Design, Web Design or VFX. Ultimately, the majority of men and women we have been talking to are interested in getting tips and advice on how to get better jobs and further their careers. Seems it's quite a hot topic. So much so that Dom - our CEO - was asked to write a piece for The Guardian about what young professionals needs to do to improve their changes of getting a job in the creative industries.

BlueBolt in the Running to Strike Television Gold

BlueBolt in the Running to Strike Television Gold

There is one television series that got us all excited here at Escape Studios this year. I am sure you can already guess which one it is... Yes, you got it, it was The Game of Thrones. There have been many discussions and debates about it over coffee in our office. So much so, that I decided it was time we featured BlueBolt on our blog.

Augmented Reality... Kelly Brooks... Angels Fall...

Augmented Reality... Kelly Brooks... Angels Fall...

OK, so hopefully the title got your attention, and we can get past the Kelly Brook distraction - she's currently "fronting" a new marketing campaign from Lynx "Angels will fall" which is all relevant, honest!

Using 3D to Good Effects in Teaching

It’s not often that I see something that just makes me pause and wonder in amazement, but a few days ago, I came across a short video that did just that.

Escapees Work on God View

We're really pleased to show you the trailer of a new short film project by Billy Lumby titled 'God view'. Billy approached Escape Studios to help him out with some of the visual effects work on the project. I'm not going to give away any of secrets of the project but you'll see it's a great concept and some really interesting techniques were used to create the film's final look.

Changing Workflows Within the Post Pipelines...

Changing Workflows Within the Post Pipelines...

I noticed this over at JupiterJazz: AtomKraft Beta2. It's a massive plugin to Nuke enabling a whole host of 3D rendering type workflows. Believe it or not, it puts control of final renders and outputs in the hands of the compers!

Find Out About New Job Opportunities via Twitter

Find Out About New Job Opportunities via Twitter

As most of you know, the UK Visual Effects' industry appears to be in a very healthy position at the moment.  Many of the large post houses in Soho are in the middle of long term projects and most studios are commenting on the lack of available freelancers. As a result, the Recruitment team here at Escape has never been busier!

Top Ten Uses of Special Effects for Great Storytelling

Top Ten Uses of Special Effects for Great Storytelling

I came across an interesting little article yesterday on PodcastFilmReview.com about the top ten uses of special effects for story telling. It was refreshing to see someone looking at this from the angle of the story telling rather than just for the special effects themselves.
