Epic VFX Time

Epic VFX Time
Today I discovered a VFX themed collaboration which includes one of my favourite Youtube faces, Harley Morenstein of  ‘Epic Meal Time’,  comes together with competitive gamer, filmmaker and part time VFX technician ‘Freddie Wong’, making for an outright ridiculous, (yet entertaining) couple of minutes…
The VFX aren’t going to blow your mind, that’s for sure. But there are some serious chuckles to be had, Morenstein’s narrative throughout kills it, as he recites VFX related jargon in his notorious one liner style.  Fans of the Epic Meal Time and VFX alike will not be disappointed!

This Too Shall Pass

Musical originality and relentless visual ingenuity are two of the many reasons that make American indie rock outfit ‘Ok Go’, one of the most forward thinking, and simultaneously underrated, bands of the 21st century.
Having dazzled us with their treadmill synchronised choreography in the video for their single ‘Here it goes again’ back in 2006, (Which is, to the infuriation of many loyal fans, their most well-known hit to date, thanks to the video) they have continued to raise the bar.
2010’s ‘This Too Shall Pass’ is a single from their most recent studio album ‘Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky’, and shows  their very own Rube Goldberg machine in action.
I was pleasantly surprised this week to discover that ‘the Mill NY’ had done some retouching on the final project.
A video which defies belief in the first place, It is understandable that the band had to call in the help of some fellow creatives.to ensure finesse in the final cut.
Fans of originality in all forms should set aside half an hour to peruse this group’s back catalogue. I can guarantee satisfaction.

Will Google+ Ever be as Popular as Facebook?

Will Google+ Ever be as Popular as Facebook?

We don't know yet, but we’re keen to find out. Yes, Facebook has had a huge head start as a social networking tool compared to Google, but Google+ users tend to be fiercely loyal because honestly, it’s just great - albeit a very different product.

Ever wondered how much you change in the space of 4.5 years? Would you take a photo of yourself every single day and then animate it?

Online versus classroom

A couple of weeks ago we asked our friends on Twitter and Facebook where they stood on online learning versus classroom courses. The range of opinions put forward was fantastic, with arguments from both sides no doubt strong enough to sway those who like their perch on the fence.

iPad in education?

iPad in education?

We all love gadgets, and anything from Apple generally creates interest for good or bad. Enter the iPad. Well, it has been around for a while now, but other than playing Angry Birds, does it really have other uses?

Looks or personality?

We were having a chat in the office about art in games, and it sparked off a couple of tweets from @Escape_Studios last week. Basically, we were wondering how much the visuals, or game art, matter in the whole gaming experience. Does a game really need to look that great for people to enjoy it, or can how it looks be the difference between good and great?

A student's little black book of contacts - the benefits of LinkedIn

I spent of lot of my time helping escapees find their first job. As part of this is, I maintain a network of contacts to help students get their foot in the door. We all know how important it is to know the right people and belong to the right network - something that not every student does enough of, but could help them land their dream job.

Two showreel tips

Those of you who follow us on Twitter will know that we had our first ever realtime Twitter feedback session on Monday. I am told I should refer to them as Tweetups or Twitter parties, but if truth be told, it was a simple, honest, online showreel clinic!  We asked our followers to send us links to their reels, and Lee Danskin, our Training Development Director, provided his usual professional feedback.

The Growth of Social Gaming

How many of you play social games? I knew it was popular but I caught some figures on CNN’s website last week that really brought it home just how big it’s become. The FarmVille Facebook game is apparently being played by a staggering 27 million social gamers ever day, adding up to more monthly active users than the population of France.
