Stop, Motion Time

Stop, Motion Time

Some of you may have read the Frankenweenie blog from last week, well, after doing a little research on the film myself I came across this video that I think anyone who is interested in the film, the director, or stop motion should watch.

The Return of Mike Wazowski

The Return of Mike Wazowski

Many of you will know who I’m referring to if I mention Sulley, Boo and Mike Wazowski. If you don’t, shame on you. They are, of course, the main characters from Disney’s Monsters Inc. The film won an Oscar, a BAFTA and a variety of other awards for its storyline, music and character animation. So if you haven’t seen it, invest, as it’s definitely worth a watch.

All Fear Frankenweenie!

All Fear Frankenweenie!

Tim Burton is one of my favourite directors, with my favourite animation film of all time (so far) being The Nightmare Before Christmas. Nearly every film he has done I’ve loved, whether it’s Batman Forever, Corpse Bride or my favourite. Everything about the films scream his trademark ‘look’, from the plots and animation to his infamous dark twists which make him so easily recognisable. It won’t come as a shock to you then, that his latest film, Frankenweenie, is no different.

Where there is light there is always dark, to maintain a little bit of balance in this world. Cartoon villains are something to be celebrated and the Animation World Network (AWN) have done exactly that, compiling two lists of the best villains- The Evil and The Funny. And hey… everyone needs a little light relief in their lives. And we are happy to provide it for you.

If “Jaws” was a Disney Movie!

If “Jaws” was a Disney Movie!

Have you ever wondered what would’ve happened if the script for Jaws was developed by Disney execs rather than Universal Pictures? Well, wonder no longer. For your entertainment on this rather gloomy Monday afternoon, I wanted to share this hilarious concept with you all. Found on YouTube earlier, take a look at a Disney’fied trailer of the 1975 classic. Spielberg possibly missed out on a golden opportunity here for a PG remake.

CityEngine: Mapping Out The Locations on Pixar’s 'Cars 2'

CityEngine: Mapping Out The Locations on Pixar’s 'Cars 2'

Pixar, renowned for their cutting edge animation, know better than anyone the advantages of saving time where possible. The technical directors and supervisors on Cars 2 were faced with the challenge of building locations for this feature length animation. Those of you who have seen the sequel will remember that the lead character, Lightning McQueen, is being sent around the globe to race in the world Grand Prix. The challenge for the Pixar creative team was to build recognizable cities, on a very broad scale.

US Teachers Get Disney Training to Make School Fun

I know it sounds nuts, but I promise this is not a joke. My colleague Susan wrote a post about this yesterday in our US Blog and pointed to an article in the Washington Post entitled "To inspire, schools take a page from Disney".

Bugs Bunny is making a 3D comeback

Hollywood's most successful cartoon rabbit is getting his turn to shine in the new 3D entertainment medium, as Warner Bros has confirmed the making of a 3D Bugs Bunny movie. It won't be the first time Bugs has been on the big screen. In 2003 he made a silver screen success out of Looney Tunes: Back In Action, and who could forget the time he starred alongside Michael Jordan in Space Jam? We spoke to Alex Williams our new Animation Tutor to get his opinion on 3D characters and whether this means that the animation industry is changing for good.

Traditional Animation makes a comeback

The first trailer for the upcoming Disney Feature The Princess and the Frog has just been released. It heralds a return to the hand drawn traditional animation that Disney is famous for. I for one am excited to see it and hope that it heralds the rebirth of traditional animation as a whole.
