Having started a VFX course here at Escape Studios, I’m keeping a diary to share with you on how the course is going. Here's my update from week 11!
Hansel & Gretel: The Witch Hunters
Followers of the Escape Blog may remember that last week, we wrote about a few up and coming films due to hit the screen in early 2013. One that caught our eye in particular, was the Tommy Wirkola directed adaptation of the brothers Grimm fairy tale ‘Hansel & Gretel’.
We were quite pleased this week then, as you’d imagine, when another trailer for the movie, (that, by the way, is aptly titled 'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters') was released as part of a final promotion push by Paramount, before the film’s belated release on the 25th of January.
The film stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, and picks up the plot 15 years after the gingerbread house-kidnap trauma, when Hansel and Gretel are fully fledged bounty hunters. Prepare yourself for an array of outrageous weapons, some serious explosions and all enhanced of course by some state of the art 3D!
17th Art Directors Guild Awards: Nominees
Last week, nominees for the 17thArt Director’s Guild awards were unveiled.
Webseries Spotlight; Blood and Chrome
Happy New Year folks, hope you all got the things you wanted for Christmas. I certainly did; that pony was a long time coming. Let's kick off the new year with another one of my trademark spotlight blogs, focusing on Battlestar Galactica; Blood and Chrome. (Shout out to user DHW who posted about this after my last blog)
Escapee Spotlight: Tiago Carmo
We have welcomed a great many students to our studio over the years, and those students all share something in common. That is, a passion for creativity and to start a career in visual effects. Students come from far and wide to attend our training facility, and emerge with skills that are truly mind blowing for 12 weeks of training. Each and every student invests extraordinary dedication to their work, and through that we are treated to some fantastic results.

Rhythm & Hues deliver a tantalizing visual treat with 'Life of Pi'
Despite popular disbelief, deeming the world created by author Yann Martel in his novel ‘Life of Pi’, as “unfilmable”, the guys at Rhythm & Hues Studios have put together a mind blowing piece of cinema that is sure to visually stun audiences around the globe.
Take a look around!
January is fast approaching, and with that brings new year resolutions and ambitions. Looking to the future, you may be keen to find out what you want to do following the end of your studies. Or perhaps you’re keen to change careers or simply enhance the computer graphics skills you already have. Last Call To All Pixel Farm Fanatics...
This is your last chance to get your name down on the guest list for our private event “A Pint With The Pixel Farm” on the 21st of November at The Sun and 13 Cantons, Soho.
The Foundry Demos November

DIY 007
Want to build your own Bond car? Today may be your lucky day. The Aston Martin DB5 used in Skyfall seems like a pretty expensive car to blow up a good couple of times, which is why it isn’t a DB5 that you see blown to smithereens.
A New Year; a new VFX career?
How time flies! 2013 is just around the corner, and what better way to kick start the New Year than by snapping up one of the last remaining spots on our January VFX courses.
Musical Breakdown
Do you remember when The Buggles were the first video on MTV? Me neither. I wasn’t born!
Digging For Bones with Christian Cardona
I will happily admit that my taste in what I watch on television has always been teetering on the edge of strange.
Catching Up With Hoxton Redsox
We have been catching up with the team over at Hoxton Redsox after the completion of "Transmission", the final video in a series of viral films as a part of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus BluRay release.
All-change at Escape Studios!
Another month and a half has flown by, and this afternoon we hosted the end-of-course presentation for our latest round of escapees. Gathered in our breakout space, the afternoon has been filled with laughter and applause. The quality of work on show has been, as ever, astonishing—it never ceases to amaze just how far our students progress in such a short period of time; and we feel confident these bright young things now stand in good stead to polish up those all-important industry-cracking showreels.
It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year...Maybe Not?
We are coming up to that time of year, the time of year that fills single people with dread, fills kids with joy and will empty out most people's wallets. Yes we are in the run up to Christmas...in fact you only have 45 days to prepare yourself.
