It was whispered around the film community that we Alfonso Cuarón got started on Gravity, it was going to be something truly epic. Well the first reviews came in today from the Venice film festival where it was premiered, and guess what, it sounds just that! Don’t you just love it when two intricate art forms collide to make something equally as wonderful as each ingredient on its own? We saw this video (above) created by students from the University for the Creative Arts, and not only did we fall in love with the computer generated imagery, but we were impressed by the fact that this animation was synchronised with a live recording of Milhaud’s 'La Création du Monde'.

Hi dudes! It's been a while since I've seen a film where the special effects really surprised me. The thing is that these days everything is ordinary: it's absolutely normal to go to the cinema and see giant robots, extreme explosions, blah blah blah.

By now, we’re guessing, many of you VFX fans out there will have seen Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel. If you haven’t, we’re sure you have a valid excuse. And for those of you who have, you may have noticed the epic credits list for the VFX department in particular. As we respectfully stay at the end of the movie to watch the credits roll, we’re always proud to spot names we recognise among the list – the names of our graduates.
Like all our Open Days here at Escape, the next is set to be even more epic than the last. On July 10th we’ll be joined by industry legend Steve Begg, who’s 27 years' of experience in the industry is quite intimidating. VFX Supervisor on titles such as Skyfall, Batman Begins, Casino Royale, The Golden Compass, Red Dwarf, Aliens... the list goes on… Steve has a great many anecdotes to share, as well as some golden nuggets of wisdom!

Small Soldiers was, no sorry –IS, in my book anyway - an awesome film, sure I may think that way because I’ve adorned it in a proverbial cloak of nostalgia, but regardless, I am part of a generation that found itself moved and entertained by the ongoing battle between the Gorgonites, led by the valiant Archer, and the antagonist Chip Hazard’s Commando Elite.
