Well, it's Friday, so get ready for a double dose of Ash. I've already popped in once today to let you know about #escapeftw. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming; me chatting about games.
Those of you who know me, know I'm into games. It's a great time to be a fan of video games, especially with the next generation so close to blowing all of our minds.
Star Wars Episode VII is on the horizon, and whether you are jumping in the air with excitement or recoiling every time the film's title is uttered – the creation of the motion picture is going to be one interesting venture.
Fan favourite film mag Empire recently released a list of cinema's greatest VFX shots as picked by industry experts and it certainly hit all the right notes. Classic scenes from Jurassic Park, Star Wars and The Abyss were all on there, but we were particularly proud to see number 1 being Davy Jones' face from POTC:DMC, which our very own Head of 2D and tutor Davi Stein worked on during her time at ILM! Congratulations Davi!
Beware the Batman, the new show about the Dark Knight, is facing somewhat of an uphill struggle. DC have decided to dumb down their animation hour this year, meaning fans of the incredible Young Justice and Green Lantern shows that were cancelled to make room for it are already on the back foot. And it's not reminiscent of the classic Bats shows; Alfred is a young, ex-military knucklehead. Kevin Conroy isn't providing his voice skills. And it's entirely CG.

Hi dudes! It's been a while since I've seen a film where the special effects really surprised me. The thing is that these days everything is ordinary: it's absolutely normal to go to the cinema and see giant robots, extreme explosions, blah blah blah.
Here is a really tasty behind the scenes look at how a talented group of German artisans and technicians, have explored and discovered the wide variety of professional creative services that they’ve come to offer.
We got to Earls Court at around 9am on Saturday morning and paid £12 for entry (this was strictly an admission fee, no photo or autograph opportunities/food or drinks included!) and by 11am the queue was truly immense, given that it was blisteringly hot outside, the early birds definitely got the worm!
Happy Friday everyone! Here’s a real interesting music video by Electro artist Yuksek, for his song "Off The Wall",
It's sure to get your toes tapping and your brain wondering at the video which is jam packed full of hand manipulated props, instruments and body parts that are brought together and combined with a mirror image.
For those of you out there who use MARI, some fantastic new additions to its functionality are now available for download and I highly recommend them!
Small Soldiers was, no sorry –IS, in my book anyway - an awesome film, sure I may think that way because I’ve adorned it in a proverbial cloak of nostalgia, but regardless, I am part of a generation that found itself moved and entertained by the ongoing battle between the Gorgonites, led by the valiant Archer, and the antagonist Chip Hazard’s Commando Elite.
