Disney releases Ptex as open source

Ptex is a technique for per-face, multi-resolution texture mapping without the need to setup your UV's manually. While the paper by Brent Burley (Walt Disney Animation Studios) and Dylan Lacewell (Walt Disney Animation Studios & University of Utah) has been around for a while, last Friday, Disney released the project as open source.

Top Down Animation - Work In Progress - Step 10

Top Down Animation - Work In Progress - Step 10

Here's the tenth step in my Top Down Animation, Work in Progress series. The following video shows my Left Foot Animation Pass.  In which I do the same as the last video and concentrate just on the Left Foot this time to add details to the animation. Top Down Animation - Work in Progress - Step 1

I am currently working on (amongst other things) a simple animation in order to demonstrate the Top Down Animation Technique. The animation I am going to do is of a character walking up and sitting down in a chair then tipping backwards. I thought it would be interesting to demonstrate the steps that I would go through in doing an animation this way, so I'll be posting my progress as I go.

20 animated submissions for upcoming Oscars

Not sure how many of you have been following this story, but a whopping 20 feature films have been submitted for the Animated Feature film category for the upcoming Oscars. This is great news for the industry as it means we’re well on track to getting five nominees qualifying for the category at the awards next February (we normally only have 3!).
