Nickelodeon has come a long way from the days of Kenan and Kel, Saved by the Bell, Rocket Power, Doug, and Hey Arnold! (just a handful of my personal favourites) and it’s fair to say that considering this most recent announcement, the level of broadcast on kids television is becoming ever more sophisticated.
The Uncanny Valley is close!
Readers of our blog out there will remember a piece we posted a few weeks back about the concept of ‘the uncanny valley’, and I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s pretty darn weird in action!
When the pencil is mightier than the pixel - Quietly questioning 'the Croods' production choices...
I haven't yet seen the Croods, but my four year old's pester power means a trip to the cinema is inevitable this Easter. When I saw the first trailer a number of months ago, however I was left a little cold and felt little compulsion to make the effort to see it. It seemed rather predictable, not particularly lovable characters and no real 'hooks' to grab me. I did change my mind completely a few weeks later when Chris Sanders started releasing his story boards for the Croods. They are nothing short of stunning.
Davi Stein meets Davy Jones!
This morning, Escape Relationship Manager Anita Gribble and Head of 2D Davi Stein, took students on a trip to the heart of the West End – to see the newly opened Double Negative facility in Great Portland Street, which opened just 3 months ago! As is always the case with our studio visits, everyone set off early with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a hunger for adventure.
Check out this Stash!
A great mash up of some amazing VFX, motion and animation work collated by the guys at Stash. Titled ‘Stash 98: Another 100 minutes of motion brilliance’ this one and a half minutes of footage is a showcase collaboration of clips that are tantalising for the eyes.
Tickets Please!
Well it’s been an exceptionally busy week here at Escape Studios, with three of our One-Day Taster Courses and an Academy Tour all in the space of three days, front of house was starting to feel a bit like Grand Central Station!
Getting Wavey!
With my on-going love of all things oceanic and particularly wave related, I really loved this sculpture created by David Bowen, shown in Poland’s National Museum. It uses data accrued by a buoy in real time to mimic the ocean surface.
Godzilla finds a home!
Those who are as pumped as we are about the prospect of a rebooted sci-fi tinted Godzilla movie, hold on to your seats, as the latest news on the project is that it’s found a home for filming!
A hell of a lot of animals!
Regardless of the controversy surrounding the recent Academy award for Best Visual Effects, given to Life of Pi last month, it is important to remember that R&H was not the only studio to have had creative influence to the film.
90 years of the BBC in 60 seconds.
If you live in the UK and watch television from time to time, you might find yourself familiar with the BBC… well to be honest, unless you live in a cave and aren’t aware of the technological progression of the western world over the last 100 years, you will definitely have heard of the BBC.
The Visual Effects Academy
So, the time is nearly upon us to open our doors to all you budding VFX artist wannabes to show you what we’re made of!
Conference on VFX, Animation, Videogames and Digital Architecture seeks work from Animators!
One of the beautiful things about the internet is the ability to translate any language to your own with the click of a button. Meaning we get to find out about more awesome events like this...
Will Emma still be the Belle of the Ball?
You may remember earlier this week I got a little excited about the prospect of Emma Watson playing Cinderella in Walt Disney Pictures’ live action adaptation of the fairy tale.
More more Jurassic Park 4!
Those who follow our blog will have had their whistle whetted by our recent post about the progress of Jurassic Park 4, as well as last week’s ‘Lee’s App of the Week’, which we bet increased your thirst for Dinosaur action by a fair amount!
The Beast that is Disney
Doctor Who writer Joe Ahearne has been tipped for a reimagining of Disney's Beauty And The Beast.
Every Young Girl’s Dream (well, quite a few…)
I’ll probably get in to trouble if I say that EVERY young girl dreamed of having their very own Prince Charming slip on the glass slipper and whisk her away from a life of boredom, ill-treatment and endless cleaning, but it would be fair to say that quite a few girls grew up getting lost in this particular fantasy, and it would appear that Emma Watson is one of them!
Black Phoenix 3D Project (it's as cool as it sounds!)
You may have read our blog a few weeks back about the robot dog/drone/potential death machine that was created by the US military, if you did catch it, you’ll know that this ‘Black Phoenix’ from 3D artist Vitaly Bulgarov project is not far away from being very much a spot on prediction of the near future.
