The Visual Effects Society (VES) are holding their annual worldwide VFX career fair this year in LA, New York, Montreal, San Francisco and London. This daylong event brings together some of the biggest names in the business and aims to inform, educate and employ the VFX community.

Doing a VFX course can lead your career in many directions. For many of our students it has been the launching pad for a career in post-production, for film, TV and commercials. Many students have also gone on to work in other areas such as games and architectural visualisation. We teach the fundamentals and practicalities of working in CG, paving the way for what you will eventually specialise in.

You may or may not have heard about a recent preview, so to speak, of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, a movie due in cinemas at the end of this year. This has created some concern and confusion over the film. Now before I continue, the aim of this blog isn’t to go into depth about these concerns specifically, because to be honest there are many websites already talking about it and I simply want to suggest some of the potential repercussions.

Adobe has created Creative Cloud, a hub for creative pros to access all their Adobe software for a $49.99 monthly subscription fee. Adobe’s Creative Cloud is the newest feature to the Adobe range which allows the subscriber on the go access their Creative Suite, 20GB storage and immediate access to new software versions for a fraction of the “in the box” price.

We live in a time of minimalistic female role models. Gone are the days where young females looked up to icons like Florence Nightingale, Rosa Parks and The Pankhurst Sisters. If you look at our culture today we are inundated with reality TV role models. In no way do I have any issues with reality TV, everyone needs a little light relief in their lives and if watching the current episode of Made in Chelsea or TOWIE does it for you, then who am I to judge?

You may think we are a little behind the curve with posting our views on the new Avengers Assemble movie. That, my friends, is where you are wrong. We don’t want to be just like everyone else. We want a new angle, something fresh, something different and something utterly delicious. If you are starting to wonder where we are going with this, do not fret!
