A truly VFXcellent week!

A truly VFXcellent week!

Last week was super busy for everyone here at Escape Studios, as we crammed in a heck of a lot of VFX related activities, we visited and hosted some of the most skilled artists in the business and simply had to blog about it!

Monday
We kicked the week off with a trip to Double Negative Visual Effects.  Our 3D for VFX and Advanced 3D for VFX students were all in attendance for a tour of the facilities, a group chat with the recruitment team, and a sneak peak at the kinds of projects the studio are working on (Top secret stuff!)

Tuesday
Next, an in house event as we welcomed animation legend Alex Williams to Escape HQ for an online webinar “Animate a Multi-Legged Creature with Alex Williams”. The webinar received a huge response with over 200 attendees soaking in the wisdom Alex has accrued from working on projects such as the Lion King, Pocahontas and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (to name a few! Here’s his IMDb page!) If you missed this webinar, be sure to sign up for our next and keep an eye on our Twitter/Facebook for information on future events!

Wednesday.
Wednesday, was, mental. First of all, our current 3D students made their way to the west end for the second time in 3 days to catch a glimpse of how a smaller posthouse works, visiting  our friends at Electric Theatre Collective. Advisory Board member, Escapee and ETC co-founder James Sindle took us for a tour of the studios.

Allowing the team time with artists of different disciplines really gave the students an idea of how smaller studios operate, it was also a delight to see some familiar escapee faces around the studios too!

While our current students were busying themselves at ETC HQ,  prospective students were checking our facilities on another open day hosted by an industry speaker.

This time John Paul Docherty took to the floor. He’s worked on an impressive list of projects including Skyfall, Casino Royale, and the Chronicles of Narnia (check out his IMDb page!

As if that wasn’t enough for one day, we also went on to host our very first ‘evening with…’ event (that evening, of course!) and it was a huge success. Attendees listened to talks from the 3D Realms (Duarte Victorino of Framestore), and a 2D realms (Taran Spear of Electric Theatre Collective). Speaking to the audience of  around 40 people, Taran and Duarte discussed their industry experiences and answered questions which were put forward at the end!

This was all swiftly followed by snacks and drinks (Courtesy of Kendall & Sims and Pop Chips) in our breakout space! There’s nothing we enjoy more than bringing likeminded VFX lovers together (check out the top picture!) so this was a great way to round off 3 days of intense VFX action!
