A Quick And Honest Review

A Quick And Honest Review

Last weekend I finally got to see The Dark Knight Rises. I love a bit of Batman, with my favourite being Batman Returns (1992) as it has a few of my loves under one roof: Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito and Tim Burton.

Firstly, I need to mention that I went to see it at the IMAX in Crawley. I think it’s definitely worth the extra money for the ticket as the sound quality, screen and whole experience makes you forget that you are in a cinema and it is just better than the standard cinema in general. The IMAX boasts that every film you watch will be a fully immersive experience, and in my opinion, it really is.

The film itself, in regards to the storyline, was slightly predictable...(I won't give anything away as I'm sure there are still people out there who haven’t seen it yet), but I thought it was quite obvious what was going to happen. Also, as much as I love Tom Hardy (Bane), at times I did find him difficult to understand, which is a real shame.

Visually however, I was in awe. The American Football scene in particular, the new, and old, armoury and the scenery (just to name a few) were incredible. However, it was through watching Ghostbusters 2 on television last night that I realised just how amazing the VFX were. Watching one of my favourite scenes (where the Statue of Liberty comes alive - watch it here) I could just tell how different it would look using today's VFX.

Back to Batman, I’m really hoping now that it has been released for a while, behind the scenes and ‘how to’ footage will appear online. If any of you have found some good breakdowns, or would like to give your opinion on what you thought of the film, then please let us know in the comment boxes below!

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for posting that link, we’ll make sure to check it out.

I know the scene you’re talking about, it was brilliant. I’m trying to work out a code to tell you another scene I really enjoyed but it gives too much of the story away : (

There’s no harm in going to see it again at the IMAX, we’d be impressed if you did!

I absolutely loved the film but I feel ashamed that I didn't get to see it in IMAX :(
The american football scene was amazing but for me the standout scene wasn't a vfx shot, it was where Batman and Bane first meet in the sewer! I can't really say what happens though can I? Lets just say Bane has had he's fair share of Spinach...

I've not found any breakdowns online but here's is a link to a review of the film and it's vfx from the guys at fxphd.

They'll probably have a really good and in depth podcast soon as they seem to be pretty tight with the guys over at Dneg who created the vfx.
