This year we’ve discovered that governments can access our e-mails, texts, phone calls and basically any form of electronic communication you may have with the outside world, but while this personal information isn’t being used by gift websites to help friends/relatives out with Christmas present suggestions, we thought we’d put together a list of must have items for the VFX Artist this Crimbo!
3D Printed Head
Luckily with the advances in 3D printing we saw this year, you can get that special someone a present that will remind them of you every time they look at it… because it is you! That’s right, with just a few pictures you can get your own head made – in 3D. What a present! The heads come in 3 different sizes, the larger the costlier, the costlier, the freakier - take your pick.
That’s right, this unisex scarf is warm, woollen AND HAS THE TARDIS ON IT. It’s rumoured that it’s even warmer on the inside than it looks on the outside, and with what promises to be a killer episode of Doctor Who dropping on Christmas Day, what better garment is there to wear as you watch the The Doctor battle with the infamous cyber men once again?
If you know anyone with an eye for VFX who is considering venturing into the realm in 2014, then perhaps you should wet their whistle, you know, give them a nudge in the right direction. Many of our students kicked their journey in digital art off by dipping their toes in the water with an online taster course at Escape Studios. At the meagre price of £15 the recipient of the course will get hands on with industry standard software under the guidance of our world class tutors, and you don't even have to leave the house! What’s not to love?
USB Pen Knife
In this modern day and age, where the internet has become a habitat in itself, you need to be as prepared as Bear Grylls on a hike when it comes to backing up your work, transferring music/precious memories and documents from device to device, and guess what? With this, you can be! It’s a Pen Knife, with a flash drive on it, (I know right!?) How cool is that? They can get a bit pricey, but can anyone really put a price on transferring your favourite movies across vast quantities woodland?
3D Artist Subscription
We rewarded our VFX Festival Marshals with a 12 month subscription to 3D Artist, so they can keep up to date with everything that’s going on in the world of VFX on a monthly basis. We’ve got a back catalogue of these bad boys in our breakout space for our students to enjoy and would highly recommend it as a gift for any VFX aficionado who wants to keep in touch with VFX happenings in 2014!
