There’s been a huge amount of excitement surrounding Keanu Reeves latest action flick 47 Ronin, which was released on Boxing Day. We know that the VFX community in particular have had watchful eyes on how the film is received given the high levels of attention the aesthetic of the film has been given in post.

In preparation for the film’s release, '47 Ronin: The Samurai Spirit' was created. It is a short animated film produced with Universal Pictures in conjunction with Hollywood firm DSF.

But some of you may have recognised the distinct style behind the short and identified the creative vision behind the project as VFX wizard and Escape Studios Tutor HaZ Dulull.

After attracting attention from industry bods with his short film Fubar Redux in 2011, Haz was approached to bring the concept of a ‘Hyper Comic’ to life, and we think you’ll agree both visually and narratively, it does not disappoint! To help make the project such a visual success, Haz had to draft in skills from across the board, one person who became involved with the project, was VFX Professional escapee Lee Medcalf, an escapee who Haz became acquainted with at the VFX Festival 2013, something we’re particularly pleased with as this is what the event was all about!

47 Ronin is out now, but if you can’t make it to the cinema just yet, be sure to click the play button above and watch this hypercomic, it’s sure to wet your whistle!
