I came across these amazing pieces of work late last night in one of my typical 'browsing fest', and just couldn't keep my eyes of them. That's what I call 3D with a difference!
This is the work of two artists, Canada based David Spriggs and Chinese born Xia Xiaowan, working in collaboration. They have been using large panes of glass to transform flat images into stunning 3D sculptures.
I'll be honest, I found the work created by Xia Xiaowan quite scary - even threatening - but the overall effect was totally compelling. I really wish I could see it in real life to appreciate the way the work changes as you move through the room.
As for the work of David Spriggs, I found it totally mesmerising. The lighting is used to great effect, and you could almost believe you were looking out to some far flung galaxies.

I hope this will provide inspiration for all of you who work in computer generated 3D day in day out.
