February 7, 2011 marks the 10th annual VES Awards ceremony. I always look forward to the Awards Ceremonies - an opportunity to get all dolled up and fête my visual effects colleagues in a manner most worthy of their efforts.
The VES has really tried to think of categories that don't get much recognition by other awards ceremonies, such as Outstanding *Supporting* Visual Effects for each category, and recognizing VFX individually in Broadcast television, commercial television and Special Venues. This year's extravaganza promises to be extra special in light of the celebration surely surrounding the longevity of this Visual Effects mainstay.
The VES Awards don't just recognize professionals. There is a Student Award too, sponsored by Autodesk, which is a great opportunity for aspiring artists to get noticed by the industry and introduced to some very influencial people. Last's years winners got introduced to Christopher Noland! So, if you think you have what it takes, why not submit your work?
You can find out more about the VES Awards here. The deadlines for submission is November 30, 2011, so you will need to get your entries ready soon. The rules can be found here, and to submit your entry, you will need to go here.
The only thing left for me to do, is work out what I shall wear! But until then, here are some photos from last year's event - courtesy of the VES.
