The Visual Effects Society (VES) are holding their 10th annual awards ceremony very soon, set to define the greatest VFX moments from 2011. Earlier in the week VES released their nominations for this year’s awards, a list that recognises the outstanding VFX achievements across film, animation, television, commercials and games. Regularly referred to as the “Oscars” for the visual effects world, this is a highly prestigious event for VFX professionals internationally. Receiving an award from any of the 23 categories is a great honour.
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn is leading the way with the most nominations in the categories for feature film, and Broadwalk Empire for nominations in the broadcast categories.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jellyfish Pictures, a client of ours, on their nomination for two VES awards this year. Jellyfish had great success with two very ambitious broadcast productions in 2011, Planet Dinosaur and Inside the Human Body. Planet Dinosaur has been nominated for an award under the ‘Outstanding Visual Effects in a Broadcast Series’ category. Inside the Human Body is competing in the category for ‘Outstanding Visual Effects in a Broadcast Mini-series, Movie or Special’.
The awards ceremony will take place on February 7th, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills, LA. The standard of competition is certainly high this year, and it’s great to see so many names from the UK among the list of nominees. Now that’s something to celebrate.
